JOB ORDER NUMBER:
A significant player internationally within the transportation industry, our client has thrown the full weight of their substantial presence, influence and prosperity behind a global initiative to enter the exciting and dynamic field of Freight Forwarding.
Already possessing a depth of logistics expertise that spans the globe, they are well situated to successfully leverage their current positioning to make this successful jump into International Freight Forwarding, inclusive of the traditional services of air, ocean, ground, etc.
A start-up opportunity is not for the faint of heart but for those who crave challenge, live to drive growth and yearn for ultimate responsibility, there is nothing better. The ability to look back in a number of year’s time and say, “I did that” can also be incredibly rewarding. The Canadian entity will be headquartered within the GTA, with expansion plans for Vancouver and Montreal. Your first order of business will be to hire a sales person and an operations person. Your second order of business will be to dominate the Canadian market! Reporting off-shore, to the head of this global initiative, will be an incredible opportunity to expand your network and truly sets the stage wherein you are, without question, managing the entire length and breadth of the Canadian freight forwarding entity.
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:
As the successful candidate, you will be both an accomplished leader and an expert in the field of International Freight Forwarding.
Wholly responsible for the P/L, you will maximize the utilization of all company assets such to realize strong margins and overall profitability. Given the full P&L responsibility of this role, financial acumen and experience with same will also be a key consideration.
The capacity to mentor, motivate and manage a team is a given. The drive to push top line growth while simultaneously instituting organizational efficiencies such to elicit a robust bottom line would be similarly assumed and expected at a minimum.
While operational expertise is paramount as is strong leadership qualities, one must also possess the ability to perform well in front of the client. In a senior management role, such as this, client facing activities are a big part of the job and a certain amount of sales acumen is required!
In fact, it really comes down to ticking off 5 boxes:
1) Operational proficiency in Freight Forwarding, specifically air & ocean
2) Past success leading, developing, mentoring a team
3) Strong client facing capacity, inclusive of account management & business development
4) Financial acumen, experience and understanding with a P&L
5) Carrier management, air & ocean, pricing and negotiation; strong relationships here pave the way.

- University degree in logistics or business management would be considered an asset
- Post graduate education an asset
- CCLP, CIFFA, CITT, P.Log, or other transportation/logistics certification is an asset
