The Senior Plant Manager is responsible for ensuring timely manufacturing process within the budgeted cost parameters. The position encompasses the functions of production scheduling, capacity growth planning, labour relations, while managing a team. The position also requires the individual to continuously reengineer the existing manufacturing set ups in keeping with up to date techniques and best practices; as well as adhering to the Company Values.
-Review with Cutting Department and Production Planning Department to streamline processes.
-Assist the Industrial Engineering department in implementing the most innovative processes.
-Ensure production schedule is being followed and check department floor for bottlenecks; make changes in production where needed to address any problem areas.
-Ensure at all times 100% OTD for bulk, sales samples, PPS, SMU's.
-Review quality issues with QA and supervisors to ensure they are being addressed and make corrections for improvement.
-Perform method analysis with the supervisors and implement lean concepts wherever possible.
-Review with the Director of Manufacturing on the current status of production and suggest possible improvements to assist in on time delivery and increased efficiency.
-Review any issues with the maintenance/mechanic person that may be preventing production from flowing smoothly.
-Provide coaching and performance feedback to direct reports (Production Managers at all Winnipeg facilities).
-In partnership with HR, establish a robust Training School with an adequate training curriculum.
-Ensure that new processes are developed and understood; oversee that all PPS are made correctly.
-Ensure quality standards are maintained.
-Ensure a smooth flow of work activity, and full and efficient utilization of factory workers in order to maximize productivity.
-Ensure factory can supply an accurate representation of delivery dates for products, based on estimated time needed to complete the products in order to avoid late deliveries to the customer.
-Provide accurate representation of costs on products and potential cost savings.
-Oversee the establishment of proper time standards on products so as to ensure appropriate product costing and piecework payment.
-Collaborate with Quality Assurance Manager to ensure best in class quality and related processes.
-Supervise and maintain staff by communicating job expectations; plan and monitor job activities and results; coach and advise on problems; develop, coordinate and enforce systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards.
-Maintain labour relations in collaboration with HR.
-Prepare and analyze cost budget for the production department.
-15+ years of Apparel Manufacturing background in various levels of production, design, and engineering.
-Minimum of 10 years' experience in a production/Sr. Plant Managerial capacity at a senior level.
-Experience managing operations of a high-end outerwear manufacturing set-up with multi style and quality production ability.
-Must be familiar with manufacturing techniques and systems with an in-depth knowledge of Industrial Engineering concepts related to Apparel Manufacturing.
-Must be familiar with equipment used in the apparel industry (cutting, sewing and finishing equipment) including use of basic, semi-automatic and automatic machines.
-Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance systems and Inventory Management systems.
-Must be able to deal effectively with diverse group of employees.
-Must have excellent negotiations skills and ability to select right contractors and vendors.
-Ability to prioritize, multi-task, operate proactively, work as a team and handle challenges.
-Excellent common sense, judgment, decision-making abilities, interpersonal analytical skills, evaluating options, and generating solutions.
-Confident, articulate, organized, detail oriented, goal oriented, self-motivated and hard working.
-Must be familiar with computers and business software such as MS Office, Excel, CAD, and ERP Software.
-Detailed oriented and strong organizational skills.
-Lean manufacturing abilities.
-Knowledge of sewing production.
-Knowledge of some mechanical ability.
-Able to make split decisions in a fast paced environment.
-Strong communications skills, able to communicate clearly with all levels of management and staff.
